There are five senses that humans have. These five senses are sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. These senses make it possible for people to interact with others and get around in their daily lives.
Sight – The eye is the organ of vision – To read the back of a cereal box, check out a rainbow, and see a softball heading your way. To let you cry when you’re sad and make tears to protect yourself. To use muscles that adjust to let you focus on things that are close up or far away. To see your loved ones. We have eyes because if we didn’t, there would be no need for beauty, and no light, only darkness.
Hearing – The ear is the organ of hearing. Hear the quiet sound when your cat is licking her paws. Or maybe a loud siren going by. Sounds are everywhere! Your ears are in charge of collecting sounds, processing them, and sending sound signals to your brain. And also help you keep your balance.
Taste – Thank your taste buds for letting you appreciate the saltiness of pretzels and the sweetness of ice cream. Taste buds are sensory organs that are found on your tongue and allow you to experience tastes that are sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.
Smell -A big batch of cookies coming out of the oven. Your gym bag full of dirty clothes. The nose is the organ responsible for the sense of smell and also the main gate to the respiratory system, your body’s system for breathing.
Touch – We feel the cold, heat, contact, and pain. When someone touches us, “our brain can perceive it, appreciate it, and change it into a smile, a better mood, or some other friendly gesture. Gentle touch can slow the racing heart, lower the blood pressure, and significantly calm even the most terminally ill. Nerve endings are distributed throughout the body, with the greatest concentration being located in the fingertips and the sexual organs.
So, today I am grateful for having all my 5 senses and the ability to use them every day of my life. I think that people sometimes take the ability to see, hear, taste, smell, touch for granted. I know that I for one do. I honestly can’t imagine not being able to hear or see the amazing things around us. I know that I need to remember more often how truly blessed I really am.
