Day 82 – Volunterring to Serve Lunch at a Senior Center

Do you want to be the highlight of someone’s day? Try volunteering at a senior center, which offer seniors an opportunity to socialize, as well as being served a hot meal. Even though one hour might not mean much to you that hour means the world to needy seniors who depend on YOU to ease the isolation in which they live.

As I continue on my gratitude journey, I want to set an example for others to follow. And so I volunteered at a Senior Center in downtown San Diego, to serve them lunch.

First, I prepared myself with the apron and gloves. Then I waited in line with the other volunteers to pick up the trays of nutritious meals. And then served the seniors with a joy in my heart and a smile on my face.It felt so amazing to give back.  A senior center employee asked me if I was volunteering for community service. And I said, “No, I just wanted to give back and make a difference”.

So, today I am grateful to have taken a part of the day to make my small, but ever so conscious contribution to serve our seniors who carry with them extensive knowledge and wisdom. For we can learn so much from them, if we take the time to listen.
