Suicide is a desperate act by someone who is in intense pain and wants their pain to stop. But if we could almost welcome problems as they arise, seek the lesson before us early on, and make any changes or adjustments, we would experience less pain. Because suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. And Suicide is never the answer!
The problems we face are inevitable and there is not an issue that is larger than life, there is not a MAN, WOMAN, or SITUATION that is worth taking your life over.
I bring this topic up because of a recent event that happened. Yesterday, my son Chris informed me that one of his best friends had died when his father killed his two sons and took his own life. I had met the father before at a Junior Basketball game as he was one of Chris’s coaches. The father reportedly had personal financial problems, was deep in debt and may have been facing foreclosure on his mortgage. Suicide notes and family photo albums were found in his minivan parked outside. In one note, the father thanked his parents and said he knew they could never understand his actions.
When I first heard about this story, it really hit home, as I am also a father to two sons. But more importantly, my heart goes out to this family. This tragic story only exemplifies why suicide may seem an option at the moment due to the extreme frustration or pain the person may be enduring, but it never solves anything. Actually it always exacerbates a problem. Not only does suicide prematurely end a life, it becomes a double disaster, wreaking havoc on the lives of those left behind. And those who have survived a suicide attempt have always regretted their course of action.
Remember: Everything in your life has happened for a reason to guide you, protect you, and strengthen you for you to live your purpose. What you get by reaching your destination is not as important as what you become by reaching your destination. Our ultimate purpose on earth is to develop ourselves to the best of our abilities.
And allow gratitude to flourish more in your life. Having an attitude of gratitude is one of the most important mindset to develop. When you feel grateful and appreciative, you will allow more good things to enter into your life. You won’t have the need to struggle and resist things, people and yourself. Because there is something fundamentally awesome about the giveness of our world, something precious about the fact that we are here to experience it, and something precious about feeling the love of a grateful heart with the people around you.
