Day 224 A Gentle Giant – My Interview with Mark Eaton

Mark Eaton is a former professional basketball player who was a member of the NBA’s Utah Jazz from 1982 to 1994. He was famous for his giant frame (7-foot-4, 290 pounds) and his strong defense. He holds the NBA’s record for highest average of blocks per game in a season and in a career.Recently, I have branded myself with Thank God I… which is a company dedicated to discovering how ordinary people overcame life’s greatest challenges. My role with Thank God I is to create a new interview series called the “Thank God I Interview”. The interviews are with empowering people from Movies, TV, Music, and Sports who have encountered hardships and had to endure tough times in life only to emerge stronger by their attitude and how they are thankful for it all.

Last week, I was fortunate to have completed my 1st Thank God I interview with Mark Eaton. My experience with Mark was one that I will never forget. Not only does he stand tall literally, but he is tall in the wisdom he has amassed through the journey of life. When I asked Mark a question like, What is love?, he gave me an answer so eloquently spoken that the words truly empowered me.

Today, Mark is a business and motivational speaker who shares with organizations and audiences nationwide how he went from a 7’4″ twenty-one year old mechanic who couldn’t play basketball to a twelve-year career as an NBA All Star with the Utah Jazz. Thousands of people have had their lives transformed through hearing Mark Eaton’s astounding story of triumph and record-breaking success as he explains the philosophy, principles and techniques that enabled him to take it to the top, winning again and again and making history in the NBA. His keynote presentation “The Four Commitments of a Winning Team,” which he shared with me, focuses on how to end internal competition in your organization. As for me, I have only the greatest admiration for this gentle giant. A man who was an imposing figure on the NBA court, yet so down to earth, with such a good heart, willing to help others, like myself with this interview. I feel that Mark has truly discovered his gift to the world and I am so blessed that he shares his knowledge with so many people who could benefit.

And isn’t that what life is all about. Sharing the knowledge we have so that others may learn how to live life with true passion. Because as human beings, we are put on this earth to enjoy all there is to offer. But along the way, we encounter obstacles that deter us from this goal. We must learn from others, like Mark Eaton, how to truly live life and not fall short of who you are being. For once you discover your gift, your purpose for existence, you need to share it with as many people as possible.

That’s what I’m doing. As I proudly share with you my 1st Thank God I Interview with Mark Eaton.
